Purdue Basketball Beat #49: 2017-2018 Purdue Player Preview
WE’RE BACK, going through a player-by-player preview of the 2017-2018 Purdue Boilermaker roster. Michael and Aneesh begin with the point guards: Carsen Edwards’ emergence as the major takeaway from the summer (2:30), PJ Thompson as a perfect setup man (5:30), and newbie Nojel Eastern (8:00), and the roles each point guard will play this year (15:00).
We talk wings Vince(nt) Edwards (22:00) and whether he has another gear, whether Dakota Mathias can build on his fantastic last year (31:00), Ryan Cline’s fantastic shooting yet frustrating play (40:30), and our shock that Grady Eifert is a real live B10 basketball player (43:30), and whether Sasha Stefanovic redshirts.
Our Matt Haarms section starts at 44:00. We are…a little excited for Haarms. We definitely don’t make the Kristaps Porzingis comparison ~15 times. We’re in love.
Isaac Haas starts the bigs section (53:00) and whether he can achieve a consistency we haven’t seen yet, newcomers Eden Ewing and Aaron Wheeler (1:03:00), and whether Jacquil Taylor can stay healthy long enough to see a solid role this year (1:04:30).
Who is Purdue’s best player this year? Breakout player? Best newcomer? Who fills Caleb Swanigan’s usage and rebounding? How many NBA players are on this team? (The over/under is 2.5.) Does Purdue move to a pick and roll/pick and pop offense, with these new pieces? Will pigs fly? Why is Haas’ favorite band 3 Doors Down? We answer everything, with a shoutout to Errick Peck.
