Purdue Basketball Beat #42: Little Rock Reactions and Postseason Reflections
The Boilermakers' 2015-2016 basketball season came to an end on Thursday night, when Purdue fell to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock in a heartbreaking 2OT loss. Michael, Aneesh, and JMoney get together to talk about the frustrations of this ending after everything broke right for Purdue all year, the deja vu of losing composure late in the game, Ray Davis' and AJ Hammons' careers ending without a tournament win, Matt Painter's coaching decisions during that game, and how those same issues can be corrected after a decade of similar mistakes.
All that, plus our random thoughts on this insane opening tournament weekend, how none of us have ever called for Matt Painter to be fired, and an impassioned plea for nuance on the internets.
One note: we really meant to give UALR, Coach Chris Beard, and Josh Hagins a ton of credit for coaching/playing a truly incredible game on the biggest stage college basketball has to offer. The two Hagins shots in particular (that 30-foot dagger to send the game to overtime, and the baseline fadeaway over the backboard to put UALR up 4 with one minute remaining in double overtime) were incredible and deserved to be fawned over, but...you know...we were ranting.
