Mostert and Hunt Participate in Purdue Pro Day; Run Fast
For those who miss football season so much and want a quick break from basketball, Mike Carmin has a story about Purdue's Pro Day yesterday at Mollenkopf. The upshot is that Raheem Mostert and Akeem Hunt are blazingly fast. You probably knew that already but it's worth noting their 40 times. The 40 has became the mark of how "fast" you're considered as a pro football player. I remember growing up and knowing that 4.4 was considered fast and 4.3 was rarefied air, in the Deion Sanders class.
Mostert clocked a 4.32 (was reportedly shooting for 4.29) and Hunt a 4.38. Mostert's time puts him in the ballpark of the top ten fastest times ever recorded if he's able to do so in a more "official" NFL venue.
If you're wondering, the fastest electronically recorded 40 is from Chris Johnson, who in 2008 ran a 4.24. "Electronically" brings us back to 2000, but if we want to go deeper down the rabbit hole, Bo Jackson (of course) is credited with two astonishing hand-timed 40s of 4.18 and 4.12.
The concludes today's 40-yard-dash history lesson.
Best of luck to Raheem and Akeem -- catch on somewhere and make us proud.
