Malone Promoted by Hazell
After a few weeks of silence, Purdue TE coach, the well-traveled and qualified Terry Malone will man the post of OC for 2016. Malone will inherit a QB stable that looks to be quickly changing as rumors of Appleby's transfer seem to solidify with the deafening silence from Purdue's recent grad and former starting QB. If Appleby moves onto Western Kentucky or elsewhere, Blough and Sindelar will battle for the starting role behind first year starting center, Kirk Barron, three Seniors and a first year starter in Patterson or someone else. Purdue's offensive MVP, Markell Jones will be back as will two of three of the starting WRs as well as Herdman (who saw quite a bit of action as last season went on) at TE. So there is a decent amount of experience returning on Malone's side of the ball for his second season in the program
Hopefully, we'll see massive changes in everything from formations to overall offensive philosophy to talent assessment...but that might be wishful thinking.
One thing's for sure, Malone's stinger better be sharp when Spring ball begins...or something.
I'm still hoping to see Joey Elliott get his first crack as QB coach for his alma mater, while Freeman gets a promo of his own on the other side of the ball. I have no idea who will backfill the LB post if Freeman gets promoted...but would like to see another former Purdue pro player (Phillips, Koutivides, Colvin, etc.) get a look. Why not?
