Poll Dancing: BSCR Drops a bit following loss
Not much is consistent in life- But I always know that I'm extremely handsome, I gotta pay my taxes, Santa comes each year and Purdue loses in my home city. After that, things vary, weather patterns change, J Money experiments with different elements of women's fashion within his wardrobe...consistency is generally tough. I'm still smarting from our Boilers' loss on Saturday. It's not a bad loss when you lose to a ranked team in a hostile arena, but I'm pretty damned sick of watching Purdue lose to Butler for a myriad of reasons. I'm probably as mad at myself as I am anything else...because I bought in. I bought into this year being different and Purdue being a truly elite team. Sure, elite teams lose, but they generally don't lose when playing a team that they know pretty well and are prepared.
I have a really hard time not blaming coach Painter for not counterpunching Butler harder with the bigs. I have a hard time watching Purdue's three point shooters disappear in important games...and I'm sick of not having an argument for people to counter why Purdue gets no respect among the national media.
You earn respect...Purdue hasn't done it this year. No wins over ranked teams...and sadly, they won't have a chance to beat one for a while as Vandy isn't in the top-25 right now. That said, it's good to see Pitt & Florida receiving votes.
Outside of a Purdue, it remains a mystery how Iowa State, with that schedule is a top-10 team, how Gonzaga is still ranked in one of the polls, the two-loss UNC tar heels are back in the top-10, how Xavier isn't higher ranked and how SMU still is allowed to be in the rankings at all (cheaters always win). As I continue to say, early polls don't matter...keep winning and it generally works out. But Purdue missed a big opportunity on Saturday.
As of today, Purdue's BSCR stands at a respectable 12.0. It actually seems about perfect to me in light of what we know and have seen.
Oddly, with Purdue's loss to Butler, their RPI went up 8 spots...another sign of how stupid their equation truly is.
As J said, if Purdue runs off a bunch of wins in a row, the loss to Butler is kind of worth while...kinda. Purdue loses recruiting battles to Butler for this reason among others- Butler has showed that it's a better basketball program than Purdue for years. That's a really bitter, large pill for me as a die-hard, brainwashed since-birth Boiler with Butler grads in his family. But it's true. Until Purdue does something to change that fact, it'll remain.
