2016 Purdue Football Coaching Search: Scott Satterfield
Candidate Tier #4
Category: Intriguing Possibilities
Who Is He?
Frederic Scott Satterfield is the 43 year old fourth year head coach of the Appalachian State Mountaineers. He was a former App St quarterback, and has spent his entire coaching career at App St (save two three seasons as an assistant at Toledo and FIU).
He has gone 4-8, 7-5, and 11-2 in his first three years at his alma mater, and currently has App St off to a 4-2 start, with its two losses coming to Tennessee and Miami FL.
Why would he be successful at Purdue?
He’s an outside the box hire, a quarterback known for crafting creative spread formations, and with another good season at App St will be a rising college football name.
Why could he flop at Purdue?
Playing in the Sun Belt is a lot different than playing in the Big Ten. Satterfield needs more experience before he can be seriously considered for power conference jobs, and though he seems to be on the trajectory to get there he’s still prone to bouts of rookie game management mistakes.
Would he come to Purdue?
Definitely, but there isn’t enough of a track record for Satterfield to be a high consideration for AD Mike Bobinski. If Doc Holliday ever moves on from Marshall, I could see Satterfield being a natural candidate, but for a Big Ten job Satterfield would need to show a liiiittle more creativity or sustained success.
