Purdue entered the day looking to challenge one of the bluebloods of college footbal following a bye week...instead, our Boilers have issued a challenge to Purdue fans: How much can you take in one season?

Our Boilers (1-5) just lost their third-straight game by 30+ points...this one ended 44-7; the only score coming on a 55 yard TD in the fourth quarter. Purdue's offense only crossed the 50 twice ALL DAY. That is rare air. I've talked about this game to a few friends and family members and don't really have much positive to say other than one thing- I liked the way Yancey played today...He had a whopping 146 yards receiving. In doing so, he became the first true-Freshman Purdue receiver in the history of the program to have two 100-plus yard receiving games in a season...and there's a lot of season left (sadly, kinda).

In Etling's first start, he looked like a Freshman; he held onto the ball too long, stared down receivers and looked a bit wide-eyed in the face of the never-ending blitz packages being thrown his way...but his offensive line and WR corps did him no favors as he was running for his life for much of the day and a too many passes were dropped. The play calling didn't do much to help him, it seemed. The surprises that Hazell promised yielded similar results EXCEPT, Hunt had a few solid gains and averaged nearly 6 yards/rush...while Cottom, in his two rushes, averaged 7/carry.

The injury-depleted defensive backfield looked green...and I don't remember seeing Henry back there. I'm not going to talk about his one play that I remember him playing...there's really no need to do that.

If you didn't watch, good for you. I wasted a big chunk of my Saturday doing so. If you did watch, you're in the ever-shrinking group of die-hard Purdue fans who refuse listen to logic and continue to watch while the product shows no improvement.

The least-optimistic fan probably didn't see this coming from Hazell's first year.

This is tough stuff. If you're still reading, you're one of us...I feel as sorry for you as I do for my wife right now. You too have a member of your family who has been neglected this fall as you've blindly-followed your Boilers, and you're probably continue to do so, if you've come this far.

Next up, the Boilers travel to East Lansing to face Sparty. MSU looked like they didn't have an offense prior to playing IU's crappy defense today. I'd surmise a guess that their offense might have an even better result a week from today, than they did today.

Are we witnessing the worst Purdue football team ever? It kind of feels that way.
