Gary Nord Remains As Awesome As Ever
You may have seen this already, but the estimable Gary Nord is suing Purdue University because of his back injuries. Now, I'm not one to minimize someone's pain. I've had a few serious injuries in my life, and my sister is 32 years old and has the back of a 90 year old, so I don't wish that sort of pain on anyone. But Gary is being one of those litigious people who sues over things like slipping and falling in the supermarket on a rainy day.
Maybe there are more details to come to light, but when the lawsuit states things like Purdue had an “obligation to maintain its property in a reasonably safe condition” and that Purdue’s property “was maintained in a unreasonably dangerous condition,” it sounds pretty thin. In fact, do you know what it sounds like? It sounds like a disgruntled former employee grasping at straws in the hopes of recieving a settlement. The University even extended Nord's health care through the spring after he and the rest of the staff were fired following the 2012 season. I remember Burke confirming that, though I cannot find record of it on the interwebs.
If Gary Nord can sue because he, a 55-year-old man, fell down and hurt his back in the weight room, then I hope all of us can file a class action lawsuit against him for gross negligence or football malpractice or something else you might see on a David E Kelly legal drama.
